POSITION SUMMARY:

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Director will assume responsibility for employee health, safety and environmental compliance; in addition to administration of programs and policies related to health, safety, and environmental management. This position will be based out of our facility located in Lancaster, Texas. The EH&S Director will support other manufacturing facilities including but not limited to: MI, CA, NC and NJ. The EH&S Director will conduct detailed investigations of existing and potential safety and health hazards, and make recommendations for remedial and corrective measures. This role requires knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Objectives are achieved through collaboration with Corporate Safety Leadership, plant Operations Management, Human Resources Management, and appointed plant safety liaisons.


PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports all BMC manufacturing facilities with environmental health and safety initiatives
  • Evaluates the organization's current or proposed activities, operations, equipment, laboratories, facilities and processes to minimize their impact on the environment, and ensure alignment with corporate sustainability goals
  • Keeps abreast of environmental regulations and policies, to ensure the organization's environmental management policies remain current and relevant
  • Conducts environmental tests; analyzes and evaluates results, recommends corrective action, and ensures the organization complies with federal and state regulations
  • Educates and trains the workforce on emergency response procedures, handling hazardous materials, and other aspects of environmental management
  • Prepares and submits environmental reports
  • Manages and maintains all written safety programs and training records, to ensure achievement of plant safety metrics and regulatory compliance
  • Provides BMC leadership with current and historical EH&S data for KPI metrics
  • Supports safety efforts by conducting audits and inspections, investigations, reporting statistics, and counseling associates
  • Oversees the administration of workers’ compensation program, including working with the insurance administrator to reduce employee lost time, and effective cost containment strategies
  • Ensures all EH&S accidents, injuries, near misses, and other events are captured and the data is managed and reported. Manage the OSHA 301/300 recordkeeping requirements and serves as the Account Administrator for the online Safety Data Sheet system (Actio)
  • Presents and communicates to all levels of the organization, and maintains confidentiality
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health & safety, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene or related field; and 8 years EH&S experience in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and demonstrated successful ability to build positive partnerships, while work collaboratively with cross-functional business teams
  • Demonstrated successful ability to organize and prioritize work to ensure timely deadlines
  • Ability to function at a high level of effectiveness, flexibility, independence and initiative without daily interaction with management
  • Proficient computer skills required including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Thorough knowledge of corporate policies, workers compensation, OSHA, ADA and other relevant legislation is required
  • Experience with ISO management system principles
  • Ability to travel up to 40%+

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Master’s degree in health & safety, environmental engineering or related field
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) certification
  • OSHA certification
  • Fundamental knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen activities and Six Sigma processes
  • Familiarity with the plumbing industry and products
